Back Care Awareness Week 2008

Back Care Awareness Week 2008 will take place between 4th and 10th October.

The annual event will be launched at the Back Show 2008, which starts on Saturday 4th October, 2008.

Mobilis Healthcare will be attending this year's Back Show at stand no.45 with a range of treatments for back pain.

This year’s awareness week will aim to promote awareness back pain, and what can be done to treat and prevent the condition.

Lower back pain is a common condition, which affects 3.5m people each year in the UK. It costs the UK economy £5bn a year in sick days off work, which is the second biggest reason for absence after the common cold.

We have a range of books about back pain, which you should recommend to your patients to help them understand their condition.

You will probably have found that your patients have developed lower back pain from a variety of causes, with poor posture and incorrect alignment of the spine and pelvis one of the most common.

Advising patients that poor posture can result from sitting at a desk over a computer while at work, while driving, playing computer games, and even from wearing high heels and flip flops, is the first step to take to relieve their back pain.

Other patients will have developed back pain from an injury, heavy lifting and the extra strain placed on the pelvis and lower back from pregnancy.

Back painThere is no cure for all kinds of back pain, but there are plenty of treatments for lower back pain, which can help to relieve and ease the discomfort for your patients.

Recommend the use of a lumbar roll, or seat or cushion to your patients to encourage correct posture and provide support to the lower back.

The McKenzie Original roll can be used while sat at a desk or while driving and the McKenzie Cervical roll is ideal for use while sleeping.

For continuous support and positioning, your patients should wear a back support, such as the Vulkan Back Support, to encourage correct positioning and provide additional stability.
